History of Sweetest Day
Sweetest Day.....Saturday, October 19, 2024
What is it?
Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October as a day to make someone happy. It is an occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick, aged. and orphaned, but also friends, family and associates whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed and appreciated!
When did it start?
Sweetest Day was started more than 100 years ago by Herbert Birch Kingston, a Cleveland candy company employee, who wanted to bring happiness and joy into the lives of the city's orphans, shut-ins and other individuals who were often forgotten and neglected. With the help of friends and neighbors, Mr. Kingston distributed candy and other small gifts to the underprivileged as a token remembrance that somebody cared about them.
