Carmelitas Bars

Ingredients:
For the crust and topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the filling:
- 1 cup Marie's Dark Chocolate Buttons or Marie's Milk Chocolate Wafers
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 3 tbsp. heavy cream
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line an 8x8 inch pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
- In a large bowl, combing the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda and salt. Stir in melted butter until evenly combined and crumbly.
- Press half of the oat mixture into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 10 minutes, or until lightly golden.
- In a small saucepan, heat the caramel sauce and heavy cream over low heat, stirring until smooth and combined.
- Remove the crust from the oven and sprinkle the Dark Chocolate Buttons or Milk Chocolate Wafers evening over the warm crust. Pour the caramel mixture over the buttons or wafers, spreading it gently. Crumble the remaining oat mixture on top.
- Return the pan to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan, For best results, refrigerate for one to two hours before slicing into squares.
